There’s Gold in Them Thar Hills
Charles Guarino, Central Park Data Systems, Inc.

March 18, 2008 FASUG Meeting

This session focuses primarily on reading an RPG formatted dump and identifies all information provided by the system. In addition, learn how to interpret the results to prevent future errors using simple error trapping techniques. Finally, we’ll review several commands that provide the programmer with useful system and database information, which is valuable for debugging.

By the end of this session, attendees will be able to:

  1. Make the best use of an RPG formatted dump, and some methods to guarantee one is generated.
  2. Understand the somewhat cryptic RPG values returned by the system.
  3. Understand how the data on a formatted dump correlates to data available during program execution.
